Hi guys.. i ve got a 02 freelander td4 and its devoloped a squeak on the front passenger side suspension... I thought it would be picked up with a faulty worn bush at mot but it passed with no issues.. im struggling to determine the cause? any help be greatly appreciated? im leaning towards it being the road spring top rubber.. not the correct name im sure.. cheers

I used to get a squeak from the top suspension mount in winter when the rubber shrank and moved about in the socket a little. Again no perceivable problems with play and always sailed through the MOT.

Replacement would be best but you could see if it is this by dousing it with a bit of penetrating oil. If the squeak goes you know what it is.

i had a squeak on my 02 td4 front left hand suspension turned out to be lower ball joint. you can replace just the ball joint, dont need to replace the whole lower arm.

Get some Spray silicon lube and spray the bushes one at a time and see which one cures it? Then you will know which it is and can ether replace it or just spray it when it squeaks.

Thanks for the advice guys.. like i said it passed the mot no problem... its just an irritation really.. will go ahead with the silicon lube spray this evening. Only happens when driving bumping ground and not if you bounce the front end.. will post back when i find the problem. thanks again.

Make sure you use Silicon or rubber lube spray!! Oil based sprays will damage the rubber. Also if spraying the bushes doesn't cure the squeak then try the top and bottom spring seat as that can also cause a squeak!! Good luck.

Ok so its fixed..or at least not squeaking anymore.. after spraying the silicon lube on many rubber bushes and my face it seems to have worked.. The source of the noise was the rebound rubber in the top mounting plate. An awkward spray up under the fuse box and thats done the trick.. i may replace the upper mount plate but if its not a problem or mot failure i may just leave it.. just goes to show guys lube is the way forward.

I have had an annoying squeak from the front nearside suspension of my 05 Freelander for at least two years. Finally I got round to dismantling the suspension (easier than I thought!) and found a split bump stop - see photo.
I sourced a new one from Rimmer Bros. on line and fitted it easily. Squeak now gone!
