I kind of know that justification. Thing is, I already fixed those last weekend with new replacements... You just can't get quality anymore these says...

So, bad news. Turned out I'm simply too stupid to read a simple wiring diagram. When connected the starter relay and turned the key I blew a fuse. But them all these lines and color codes are so small print and print quality is just bad...

Replaced the fuse, tried again. And now all the electrics are dead. Nice job for one day. The blown fuse was the auxiliary fuse, the outer left one in the box. My suspicion now is that I didn't just blow the fuse but also one these two guys, I assume the right one:

I checked my parts catalogue and, again, repair manual and wiring diagram. No idea what it is. Since the whole electrics are dead, maybe the ignition relay or something is fried.

I check the volt relay guy, no idea how it is really called, the three contact relay left of the steering wheel, and electricity is going through. The one mentioned above not, that's why I think it's dead. Any ideas? If not, well there is an official stealership like 500 m away and a DeLorean specialist next door. But I'd rather keep my budget for something more fun...

Nice Sunday everyone!

Nice Sunday everyone!

If you don't have a stealership locally, do you have a scrap yard ? ... a Rover vehicle of similar vintage could well have the relays your looking for ...

Getting a handfull can really help, well a handfull of fuses, bulbs, relays, interior lights, you'd be surprised what fits from the range ...

Not a scrap yard, but maybe the guy I sold the orange wreck can some parts... It's a VM Diesel, so not sure if things are compatible. Guess I just give him a call tomorrow, I already recovered the roof, so...

Bad thing with scrap yards is there are not that many rovers over here in Germany... But some scrap yard diving is on the list for vacation whenever we go to the UK. My beloved government has Scotland high on the wishlist already! She just doesn't know about spares scavenging yet!

That's the big enigma I try to figure out since I have her... At least I'm quite reasonably sure to have located the right indicator relay today. Bit there is so much aftermarket wiring **** in there that I keep thinking about tearing it all out and start fr scratch. But then I fail connecting four wires correctly and just want to keep it working like before.

It is also the big issue I have taking her to a specialist. Once he figured out the wiring I'm broke.

When I put the 200tdi in mine I took most of the dash out and repaired all the wiring using correct colours, probably using the manual you have and I agree it is very hard to read the wiring colours on it.
Somewhere online you can find lists of relay pin numbers, this helped me a lot. Here's an example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIN_72552

Yours may or may not be as bad as mine was, whoever fitted the previous (Ford) engine had used black wire for everything

After I got my 92
I caught the engine on fire in the garage
Burned all the wiring in the back of the motor
Total bummer
But I replaced the wires one at a time
And was successful in getting it running
I did have the advantage of haveing a 91
To source the wires but I would have
Done just as well without it
I do have to say it runs much better
After the working replacement
And relays
I have buckets I have salvaged from junk yard rovers
I like stuff
Good luck with your Rover
I’m sure there is great satisfaction
Driveing it around in Germany

The couple of kms I did after I bought were very very nice! Lucky me it did start a fire on me... yet... When we replaced the inner wings we used the angle grinder on some scres and accidentally cut into a wiring harness. While fixing it we discovered some older damage unter the intact isolation, one wire only had two strains left. Oh the pleasure of electrics!

So, good news! We chased, successfully if I might add, the root cause!

Turned out all circuits passed successfully, yet did have any voltage. Chased it done circuit by circuit between the aux fuse, ingnition key lock and starter motor. All passed, still no voltage. Things is, when some fancy battery was installed a master switch was added. When I produced the short circuit it blew the fuse and also fried the main switch. Unrelated issue was a bad earth from said main switch.

Now the engine is turning again, battery is too flat to ingnite so!

Ah, we also discovered a broken contact at the indicator switch. Assuming the right front indicator light is working again it's only the front washer to sort out!

Shows that persistence pays, well done.

Thanks mate! Now I almost feel competent enougj to tackle an auxiliary battery set-up for some camping gear!

Honestly, without you guys that project would be a LOT harder!

Inassume it's acceptable to resurrect old threada if they are your own.

While everything is running well, there arw still a couple if electric issues I hope I can get some pointers for, especially the first one:

- the horn isn't working anymore, cables are good so. I think it isbagain an earthimg issue, I just have no idea where to look. The switch has power as indicator lights are working. Any idea where a horn related earth might be located? New horn are ordered just in case
- Front washer pump isn't working, earth is connected (it's the same as the starter motor relay which is working just fine). as for the horn, could it be that there is an earth or cable to then switches at the steering wheel that connects to these switches? And if yes, where?

And from finally something curious and more of a fun fact and not critical: The right front sidelight is dead, bulp is working and thenriht indicator as well. Also the whole assembly has power. Curious quirk, I'll try tackling it with some contact spray.

Greetings and have a nice weekend!
