Hi guys my UJ has broken on my p38 front propshaft was wondering if i could take it off the car completely and basically have a rear wheel drive car for a while until i get a replacement part without it doing any damage thanks any help welcome

I have never done it but I believe it is not only OK but rather common. Watch out for the corners in the wet but on the plus side you might get a couple of extra miles out of a tank...

thanks for the quick reply i was warned that the diff might not like it but its good to hear i can drive it for now thanks again

I don't think there is any short term impact on the VCU. Someone like Wammers or Jamesmartin would be able to confirm.

You can run without the front prop. But no towing or you'll knacker the VCU.

Question is what broke the UJ? Could be the VCU is seized, if not running with the front prop removed for any length of time is a sure way making it seize. It's not designed to run in continuous lock up mode. Of course if the VCU is seized you can run with the front prop removed for ever.

thanks its even better news when its verified thanks alot lads

Yeah but just to qualify, as Data says for a week or so til you get a prop, not for ever. And no heavy loading, that means no hard acceleration no towing.
