Hi all,
So found the problem with the Landy, a lot of play in the front prop, the UJ that goes to the gearbox wasn't in good condition. I have removed old - pictured - and about to replace with new from bearmach based on my model, also got a GKN. However, both UJ are too small. The Original is about 80mm from cup to cup and that's where the circlips would sit flush. However, both GKN and bearmach are 75mm. Does anyone know where I could source a suitable replacement. I realise these things are a nightmare and rarely match up, otherwise I'll just buy a new prop as I need to get back on the road. Thanks

Just did mine on 2004 110, needed the wider version, purchased through Bearmach. What a joyous job with a vice that's too small, sash cramps and G clamps, oh and however did it last time had rounded the prop nuts and put them back on so had to file off burrs under the truck, new nuts a must.

Slight issue with the 2 biggest online parts people giving me different part number even after giving them the Vin number.

Broke my circlip pliers, that'll teach me to buy a cheap pair.

Plenty of grease!

I do them with 2 hammers an a couple of sockets, not even a vice ;)
 
Did mine y’day after 4 days of trying! 1992 110 200tdi Defender
Dropped prop Tuesday. Noticed sliding joint seized. Managed to get it out but coating of splines goosed and shaft wouldn’t move freely.

Decided to get genuine Landrover replacement as I’ve had cheap ones fail monotonously over the years. Phoned up local dealer. Two showing in stock so ordered for overnight delivery.

Wednesday morning go to dealers about 10 am to pick up prop shaft only to be told the stock list was wrong and they hadn’t got one! They now say 22nd July!

Ring round number of independents and get a ‘Hardy Spicer’ delivered to their localish depot overnight so pick up Friday morning. Buy new nuts & bolt kit. Take off transfer case flange to fit new bolts which turn out to be to short. Ring them and their adamant the longer bolts were only used on a 300tdi. Explain we’ve had ours since new and it definitely needs longer bolts. They agree to stick some in the post for Saturday delivery.

I really need this vehicle back on the road so ring round a couple of engineering suppliers and find some 3/8 x 1 1/2” UNF bolts that I collect and cut to correct size. Job done in an hour.

Can someone confirm that I am correct and on 200tdi the prop bolts from the transfer case flange are longer. I had to cut to around 1 1/4” to ensure a bit of thread sticking through nyloc. The bolts I was originally sold didn’t even reach the plastic insert of the nuts on rear but were ok on front. I should imagine there’s a lot of people out there driving dangerously fitted propshafts if this is what they’re getting supplied with.
