Hi

I've found a worn UJ on the front prop.
Has anyone ever experienced a worn uj making a noise that sounds like a metal grinding sort of noise? can only notice it at low speeds really.
The noise goes when you dip the clutch or come off throttle, so gotta be something to do with the drive. Any ideas?

Thanks

Cheers Grunt. Yeah mine does vibrat. But wasn't sure if that would be causing the noise that i'm hearing.
Well need to replace, so fingers crossed that that is the noise.

Just been looking on paddocks has anyone tried the uj replacement? Are they any good or will i be better off replacing the propshaft itself?

Ok cheers for that, Just thought i'd read somewhere that you can't replace the uj on it's own and you had to replace the whole prop.

So i'll go down the uj replacement route then.

Thanks

Just make sure you get some quality U'J's cos there's a lot of crap one's about!

Yes, I had some weird grinding, squeaking thuding noises.

2 new UJ's and, no more noises.

Make sure you get the right ones, one is 2 15/16ths of an inch and the other 3 1/16ths of an inch if I remember correctly. Paddocks sell them by chassis number, however its by axle, so make sure you get the right ones.

Hi I signed up to add to this thread.

I had a squeek / grind noise just this week I looked underneath and saw the UJ had wear and tear on it so took it to the garage and got it replaced. It cost me £55 for the job. (I had another little job done to.)

It only made the noise when I put my foot down and upto around 35-40MPH then it was ok, it also has a rumble like going over very light rumble strips (seriously light ones but thats the only way to describe). Now the UJ is replaced the noise and rumble has gone and its a real delight to drive again.

Ok thanks alot for your replies. There a positve towards the noise i'm getting. And hopefully once i've fitted it, will cure it for me too.

Thanks

which uj's are recommended from experience? i've seen ones ranging from £4 to £44, is the difference between them obvious or just the length of time they last? thanks

I got some front & rear ones recently from paddocks. The front ones looked like reasonably good quality (£8 pair I think) but the rear one looked realy cheap and did'nt even have a bleed nipple (£6)!

yup, im with mr grunt on that, only ever use genuine hardy spicer uj's anything else is just a poor compromise ;)
