does any1 no if the front prop on my 96 DSE is the same as the v8 auto?? The closest prop I can get my hands on is the v8 and mine is totally buggerd, anything over 15 mph and there's a real bad vibration and upon inspection the UJ is fallin apart, when I've been greasing it the dam thing has only pumped grease to 3 of the corners not 4 so prop dead, any advise wod be great. Thanks
 
The information I have got is that the front prop on the diesel auto is TVB000130. The V8 uses FTC4140 so they are different.

You can run the car with just the rear prop shaft on while you get the front UJ fixed. Easy job. Any decent garage should be able to do it.
 
Thanks chaps, yeh I can fix it and already spoke to joe at Emmots but I can't wait till I get paid and it's so near Xmas and there's a spare v8 prop goin free in my mates scrap yard, now I could fit a new UJ only around £10 from eBay but I really need car on road asap, was gona disconnect the prop for a few days but I remember doing that on my series 3 when I snapped front half shaft, the gearbox didn't last long in only rear wheel drive.
 
Are the uj's not the same size between v8 and diesel? You could take the uj and try it on your prop

The Yoke in the UJ Centre has the same part number for both front/rear & petrol/diesel so I gues the UJ itself is (pardon the pun) universal

Yes I did think of swoping UJ from v8 to mine but again was unsure, think il do that and replace with new after new year, thanks people once again more invaluable information.
 
Its an easy job to replace UJ as long as it hasnt completely broken up and damaged the yoke. You should be able to buy a UJ from your local motor factors or bearing suppliers or even halfrods at a reasonable price. and also do them both. when travelling I always carry a couple of spares and also a couple of spare CV joints as i dont want to be stuck in Russia again when the CV joint on my **** itself in a place called Ust Kut before the days of internet and mobile telephones and I managed to find a guy with a lathe to turn up a cage for the CV and it cost me 20 $ US.
