Managed to find a picture , ur see as the cable slits into the actuator and the door handle in the bracket ur see very small slots , thats where u can put some cable ties to hold the cable in place , marked on the pic with an arrow

As a side note as ur going to have ur door open ur interior lights will be on, over a prolonged period of time it can drain ur battery

Plse press and hold the centre button of ur front overhead interior light , i think it’s the same in the D4 , after a few seconds ur see all the interior lights go off, then when finished press the centre button again and they will come back on again

Just thought it would then save u battery abit

Don’t mind admitting I bought my D3 some 8 x years ago and knew nothing , it was all down to the wonderful people here who helped and taught me a lot

Also learnt a lot from fixing mine , from door actuators to virtually rebuilding the air suspension, really enjoy being able to pass things on

Couldn’t agree more that ur find this forum a wonderful place to be , full of such nice souls as a community , also hope that u stick around as it’s nice seeing more ladies joining

Plse let us know how u get on and don’t ever hesitate to shout if u get stuck on anything as plenty of us to help where we can
that's such a wonderful journey to have been upon...with the help of the other wonderful souls on here. Now, here you are...helping me...and for that, I'll be forever grateful to you, Gary.

I'm making final notes and will begin in about an hour, once I've got all the right tools to hand and cleared a space...as I'll mostly be outside but can sort of be partly under cover.

I'm doing ok so far. Bit potty mouthed. Unfortunately, the cables in the window regulator, came out of their respective components...so now, I'm going to have to figure out how to put that back together. The mess in the background, is part of my workshop. It's organised every now and then...but within minutes, it's delightfully chaotic and messy again.

What a day. Success and failure. A lot of doing and undoing and doing again. The original problem of not being able to open the front passenger door with the key, has been solved. The undoing of the window regulator took some time. With a bit of brute force and ingenuity...it has been rectified. However...on putting the door card back together with all the necessary wotnottery, I inadvertently tweaked/bent/wonked the cable (LR013916) connecting to the internal door handle and the white plastic bit, sort of sheared at the curved part (apologies for distinct lack of technical jargon) and therefore, the internal door handle now does not work.

I will therefore be buying new cables, taking everything apart yet again and hopefully, putting it back together without mishap. Given my new level of incredible knowledge (only joking) I should be able to do this within an hour...in the dark, rain and while sleeping. Failure is not an option.

Know what u mean with regards to those cables, indeed ur see that they slot in so to speak , where the outer cable sleeve ends I put a small cable ziptie to secure the outer cable sleeving to the actuator one end and handle the other preventing the cable from coming out of the relevant positions

As a side note ref the interior lights I changed all of mine to leds and therefore reduce the battery being drained , hope pressuring the centre light button worked for u in turning them off temporarily

Plse let us know if u get stuck on anything else and can dig out pics or details of that will help u further

With regards to the cable, it couldn't be fitted until the door card was replaced...and that's when I messed it up. But I have learnt a valuable lesson and shall ensure it doesn't happen again. But as always, your knowledge is invaluable and so appreciated, thank you.

That sounds perfect in getting the burner into ur workshop for the winter time , they certainly kick the heat out , if I may add plse get a carbon monoxide alarm as I’ve seen where sometimes if a door / window is opened it can sometimes pull on the flue , also worth installing an air vent into a wall near the burner to allow free combustable air , the round 4” ones are good as it’s easy to drill a hole then in the wall instead of the square grills, it should also be none closable

If u install it high and not ground level the cold air ingress is reduced on ur legs or floor seeing the hot air rises and mixes with the cold air coming in

Of course understand workshops / garages can be very drafty so indeed always best to get the alarm and vent

Once again hope it doesn’t come across as being rude in any way just from what I’ve seen over the years

Thks for the update and all goes to plan for the door cables, plus I was quoted £550 from a dealer to replace my door actuator so great news you will be saving a good amount of money

Plus seeing u now have the D4 is a great excuse to get more tools etc, lol

Sorry as didn’t realise that with it being so open so indeed air vent will only be required once u fill it in , great u already have an alarm for when that happens to be on the safe side

Once it’s closed in and you’ve installed the flue and smoke test it if it doesn’t pull very well u may have to extend the flue to get a better pull more than happy to help along with others if u get stuck

Ref the alarm does it go off randomly plse , if so it may be ur LH , drivers side , bonnet switch , u can link them out with a short piece of wire to prove if it’s that at fault , if not always happy to help
