So the rear it is then, are the arb loads better then say a detroit locker?

What are LSD diffs like? I know what LSD diffs do as I had on in my track car. Are they Andy good off road?
 
How can you tell of an axle has a Detroit locker or LSD type diff without opening it up? If I jack it up and spin a wheel should the other spin the same way if it has one in and if I spin one and goes backwards is it an open diff? Or would just one wheel spin on it own?

Or should u just drop the oil and remove the diff guard and pan and open it up and look?

if you want to check if there is a trick diff in the rear axle, jack one of the rear wheels up, stick it in gear, and if your car drives its self off the jack then thats no standard dif you got. if the wheel just spins, the chances are you have a standard diff, unless its an ATB LSD. but if your not that brave, open up the diff case and just have a look

if detroit fitted, lift 1 rear wheel and with handbrake off you shouldnt be able to spin wheel
 
on me rr bobtail i had arbs front and rear aswell as ashcroft cvs and shafts as it was running a 4.2 v8 it was a worthy exspense and i must admit never failed in any winch challenge or pay n play

personally unless your doing some serious challenges theres no need for upgraded cvs/shafts

If I jack one rear wheel off the floor and the wheel turns then is that not an open diff? Or is a Detroit open until its needed? Might just open the diff and look, in gessing Detroit diff would say Detroit on it?
 
no it dont say detroit on it, a detroit even without diff lock on still locks the rear axle, it only disengages when cornering on a hard surface at speed(ie. a road)

Ok I'll jack it up and have alook as its had loads done to it but no paperwork for mods just for the macanical stuff like clutch and services snd mots,

And when off roading on a dry dusty day when accelerating up a slight hill it spun both rear tyres, seams to troop on through anything even without the Center diff lock in,
 
another way is to get it in thick mud, with diflock on, both rear wheels should turn at the same speed

Problem better worded goes more places than other defenders including my first one, but I have had it stuck, it was more that my front bumper was on the floor acting as a shovel cause I was in a hole,

All in all driver error misjudged how deep the bog/ hole was I thought it was a slope but was more of a sheer step = one stuck Landy,
 
Detroit locker fit and forget its an automatic unlocker the slowest wheel will be no slower than crownwheel

This has handling issues google it forget those that have never driven one it does affect handling and is cmanageable if your motor is in good nick.

You get a kind of feeling of under steer as you accelerant through a right corner with the inside rear wheel pushing you through the corner.

Rear bushes will wear out more quickly and having slightly different size tyres on the axle will be very noticeable.

agree with the bushes wearing quicker
