Wotcha Folks,

I haven't been on for a while so I hope eveyones doing well :) . My TD5 Disco had developed a 'clunk' when manouvering at slow speed of full lock, sometimes it not so bad but occasionaly it's a proper bang, it seems to be worse in reverse. Also it doesn't happen every time. I'm having a new rear chassis fitted in a few weeks so I'm hoping this isn't anything expensive :-( Any Ideas what it could be ?

Cheers

I think it could be a ball joint. In my experience a cv normally makes a repetitive clunk/click noise as you turn, a worn ball joint tends to move not that often during lock to lock steering.

thanks for the suggestions, the drop link was replaced at the last MOT, could they have buggered it up ?

could it be anything else though, bloddy clunk goes right through the steering and kinda snatches at the steering wheel ?

Front diff could be fubar, if the pinion bearing is worn the pinion can move so skipping on the crown, at lock the diff is earning its money compensating for the speed differential so maybe loading up is resulting in a bang.

not really id be looking at bottom ball joint or cv
Just replaced my lower ball joint passenger side 2 days ago, I had the same problem "cluck" noise and weird steering. But check CV joint to like he said. Make sure that you have a ball joint press , if you have to do the ball joint. I noticed my CV joint boot has a hole in it, so I will so be taking it back apart to fix that soon.
