Was the back end lifting as you were torquing itI managed to get the hub fitted this lunchtime & torqued up. I now have to fit the suspension turret that side & get the wheel on then give it a road test, once that's done I can check the n/s ball joints & hopefully get away with just replacing the boots on them then change the turret that side & a wheel alignment check should have the front end sorted.
I would just like to say a massive thanks to @Royston90 for the loan of the torque wrench. View attachment 248517
It sure was but the fact it had so much leverage meant I had to put more effort in torquing the brake caliper carrier bolts up with my weedy 1/2" drive version !Well done...thats some torque wrench, what a beast
I must admit that it was the most effortless bit of torquing on the whole job. I did use my son DeWalt impact gun to undo the d/shaft nut which again just wizzed undone. Standing on an appropriate length of bar taking my weight into account was looking my only option until @Royston 90 kindly let me the biggest t/wrench I've ever clapped eyes onWas the back end lifting as you were torquing it
I have to say I’ve done all my hubs and never torqued them up, just made sure they were bloody tight…with the assistance of a 3ft piece of pipe. In fact I think I done the last one with my new Milwaukee
Yes all vehicles need money spent on them especially when they're the age of ours! No worries on the adaptors.Glad it`s all done & smooth now, a job well done ! I need to do mine, but first things first I have to splash out £200 on doing my Passat timing belt as that is more important than the wheel bearing on the list of jobs. And thanks for lending me the adaptors Andy. I will get those copied when time allows.

also pleased that when I went over a bump I didn't get the farting noise along with the TC light as I did before with the dodgy wheel bearing.
