Hey guys, ive just replaced my front offside swivel ball, and renewed the bearings while at it, all was going well until i put the drive flange back on and realised the halfshaft wasnt sticking out at all, let alone enough to get the circlip back on.

Took it back apart to make sure things were tight enough, and was all fine, put back together and no difference. Any suggestions on where ive gone wrong with it?? Cheers in advance for any ideas!

Tom

use one of the bolts to pull shaft out may need to slacken drive member ,if not its not seated in stub axle properly

This reminds me, i went to do this with the rear and the bolt was way too big to do this. Is this normal? :)

Or if not a bolt, I've found that a little hook shaped thing inserted into the hole in the end of the driveshaft can help you hold it out whilst the drive flange is slid on, enough to expose the groove to get the clip on. Otherwise the drive flange just presses the shaft back into the swivel. Alternatively I've used circlip pliers of the kind whose jaws expand when you squeeze the handles to grip the inside of the hole and pull the shaft out towards me as I push the flange on.
