Whilst under my car working at the gear box selector switch, I have noticed the front bottom cradle that bolts to the chassis quite rusty , is this easy to swap out or is it an engine out job.

I haven't used the car in over twelve months and for all I would get I mite just start driving it again.

If it's passed the MOT I wouldn't worry too much.
Just give it a rub down to get any loose bits of rust off and give it a coat in underbody seal or waxoyl.

It's a reasonable job to do I would prefer to do it on a ramp with a subframe cradle pump up jack and a half ton pump up jack to support gearbox and engine up.

It's a fairly straightforward job once your done a few like myself. It's a case of unbolt the lower suspension arms, anti roll bar, steering rack, engine mounts, then unbolt the frame. Can be done in 2 hrs maybe less if you really go for it.

Would not do on a four post ramp only a 2 post ramp is the only real option.

You need the clearance underneath to bend, twist and manipulate it.

Once you unbolt the engine mounts you need to use a pump up jack to support the gearbox and engine then release the subframe if you don't do it this way it will end up with you being flatterned by the engine and gearbox.
