Had the P38 in for MOT, failed on O/S/F CV boot and a rear brake line corroded. fine i thought, got a quote for the garage to do the work, all in including the MOT £100....
I'm busy doing stuff at home so i opted for them to do the work.....MASSIVE MISTAKE...
got the car back the following day, everything seemed fine, i have a company car so the rangie only gets to go out now and then. After a few days i noticed a strong smell of gearbox oil where the rangie is on the drive... had a quick look and there is a pool of oil all around the wheel and drive....by this time the car had only done around 10 miles since the MOT, took it back to the garage (1/2 mile round the corner in the village i live in)
showed them the problem and was greeted with..."we didn't touch that"....
to cut a long story short... i took the car to (where i should of gone in the first place) to a landy specialist in the next village... they have looked at it and said the other garage had no idea what they were doing when trying to replace the CV boot.... they had loosened the drive shaft alignment bolts which should not be done unless you have right main dealer alignment tool.....i fact they had loosened the lock nut, moved the alignment bolt and never re tightened the lock nut.....!!! now because the drive shaft was and probably still out of line the O/S oil seal is leaking like a leaking thing....
so now i'm stuck with a car with leaking oil seals as the landy specialist unfortunately don't have the alignment tool to do the job and also they have said whoever did the MOT missed lots of other defects in the front axle which would of failed an MOT if they had done it.......gutted.....
so...repair the front axle of all the defects found if i can get the alignment tool..., find a good second hand unit complete, or.... i dunno.....
at the moment I've not done anything and am waiting to go back to the original garage as the owner is on holiday....:boxing:
hindsight is a wonderful thing....
