Hi all
As above front wheels are locked on when drum screws fitted, it seams fine ( driving up and down drive ) without, I did a search and other people have blamed cheapo shoes. They are wider apparently. With the wheels on -obviously !!!! It's not a problem to drive is it? Ps landy did about 30 miles till problem started
Cheers

If they lock with sets read fitted, surely they lock with wheels tightened, therefore something needs sorting

Have you tried backing off one or 2 clicks on the adjusters?
ALSO after you've driven WITHOUT heavy braking does either wheel feel hot? An indication that brakes are binding!

Have you chamfered the leading edges of the shoes , if they are wider can you see on the drum where they are rubbing ?

I backed off the adjusters when I reilised something wasn't right, it made no differance whatever I moved then too, it was then after reading someone else had problems with the drum screws I tried without and then I had brakes again! Haven't driven it far enough to tell yet, will have a go in the morning

The shoes came chamfered, Im not sure if I've kept the old ones to see if there a different size, I didn't take the drums off today.... Not sure I want to now if I've cured the problem, spent ours already trying to adjust them! Will leave it as it is for now, just want to make sure it is safe without the screws, carnt go anywhere surely?

Is yours an 88" Series 3 ?

Cos up to 1980 they had 10" drums and after 1980 (Juneish), they went to 11" ... may be the suppliers did a wrongun ..measure the drums to be sure ...

If it's a 109" most brakes are 2", but some were 3" for the Stage One V8s
and there is a weird thing for the adjusting pegs ...

If the adjusters are not doing anything make sure you have the the shoes on the right way next time you take them off , ie peg on the side where adjuster pushes shoe out.

It supposed to be! It's defo not a 109

Check the shoes are right for the number they should be ... not the first to be given mixed up stuff ...

Will do! But pretty certain it's all the right way round, I did get some air out when I re bled today which must have helped

After June(?) 1980 :
Front= 11" drums w / double leading shoe set up, as standard on previous 109s
Rear= 10" single leading set up as was previously standard on all 88's

Hi drums say 10 inch on them but I've not taken them off, I've re bled again - lots of air still in, even though it was fine for a couple if weeks- and now all seems fine, although drum screws are still not fitted on one side

With wheels on it should still do it as they should still hold the drum in the correct location. Didnt have screws in mine for years with no issues. Recenty fitted screws and no difference whatsoever

Just what I thought! Would like to know what's happened, but I'm a fan of ' if it isn't broken don't touch !'
