I am Trying to remove my front brake caliper so i can replace the rotor and rebuild/replace the caliper.
but, the calper bolts, yes, both of them are frozen and starting to round. They are 13mm 12pt, although a 1/2" 12 pt now fits as well. Both bolts are rounding.

Any suggestions on removal. I have to get this one off, as the pistons are also frozen, as well, hence the rebuild.

1985 land rover 110 with lockheed calpers.

Thanks in advance.

i/2 bihex is better fit on caliper bolts ,hitting the head hard will work if done enough and well ,keep trying socket so you dont mushroom head

As above, whack it hard and try some heat, and rather than using torque to crack it off give it sort sharp shocks to break it loose.

belt with a great big hammer ,plenty of wd 40 or simular and good to try tighten first as this will break the rust on threads, then release make sure you dont round bolts ,use a long bar with your socket as rachet no good for the job
hope this helps

Invest in a set of Irwin Bolt Extractors! Got mine off fleabay for six quid, and they are one of the best bits of kit I have for removing anything that turns anticlockwise!

I heated and cooled them several times and then got some penetrating fluid on them.

Untighted, tighten, untighten. 1/2 inch bihex on smaller breaker bar, took a while, but got there in the end

Do you have a welder? Weld on some 19mm nut's and take them out like that, if they are rounded your going to need new ones anyway.

A new bihex 13mm and 1/2inch socket is what you need, try the 13mm, if that doesn't fit you'll need it for putting the new bolt back on.

Welly the 1/2inch one on, and using a breaker bar it should come off without much of an issue. If the bolt is knackered, you may need to file it down and then try a bolt gripper, I had right fun and games on mine, but they did come off eventually. Get yourself a new set of bolts ready to go on.
(which btw are different to the later ones, I found out by stupidly ordering the wrong ones....I got afu1031 which fitted my 1992 defender)

Great advice all around. I am past impact or sharp blows. Weld a 1/2 on and attack. Never crossed my mind. Will return tomorrow with hopefully a success story.

Cheers.
