I have a new dilemma I was changing me wheels today to put my new ones on, so I lifted the from up and put it on axle stands, so I fitted the front right as you stand in front and look at the car, I wobbled the wheel back and forth, and there was no movement, but the front left, when I put the tyre on has loads of movement back and forth as if something was loose, the wheels were done up tight so it isn't that, any ideas?

Sounds like bearing had had it or maybe loose ! If you do a search on it I'm sure you will find a how to guide or maybe look in busters threads

defo sounds like wheel bearings..i would het it changed asap as your wheel will end ip like mine in this pic, bearings failed and took stub axle, disc assembly with it aswell and it couldn't be driven had to be recoverd..so drive it at your risk

Oh **** really of it was wheel bearing does that explain the wobble I get when driving along? And it gets really bad in 3rd and 4th and at about 30-40mph?

yes u will prob get a bid of wander aswell..

if u jack up the wheel again and grab the wheel at top and bottom and move it in and out and then do the same holding the left and right of the wheel if u get movement the bears are defo fooked,u might get away with just pinching them up a bit but depends how much wobble ya got

I don't get any wander that I can tell of, but I just get really really bad vibration, ok well I am in the middle of working out what the problem is, so ill jack it up and wiggle is from left to right and see if it moves, how would I tighten up the bearings?

if u have no movement with the wheel then it will be the swivel bearings, mine did it when I got to 30mph it would wobble/vibrate so bad u had to slow down to 5mph before it dissappeard again and then drive off and repeat the process.

just out of intrest, cos Ive read plenty on here bout wheel bearings, swivel bearings etc

Changed my bearings when I did the discs last year. How often would you change em? annually? cos there not that expensive compared to the cost and arse factor of complete failure!

there not exspensive but theres no real guide on how long they last

if u just do road miles with standard wheel/tyres they will last ages

if like me you have 37" tyres do more offroad than on road etc then they don't last long atall:mad:

Are your brakes abit spongy aswell? Or you have to pump the pedal abit for them to work??

thanks, well I recently fitted 265/75/r16 discoverer STT on black mods. wiv -35mm offset. So I'll get some spare bearings!:)

Brakes seem fine deas I don't have to pump them for them to work. It does wander a tiny bit? I jacked it up earlyer and I have a bit of movement top and bottom. But a lot from left to right.

With it jacked up get someone to put the brakes on and see if the play goes if so it'll be the wheel bearing,
but generally if the play is side to side I would say its a track rod/drag link end or even excess steering box free play

ok ill do that in the morning, as never really thought of that, well i didnt think it would be free play in the steering box, seeing as the other front wheel doesnt move what so ever when i jiggle it in the air
