So I get in the Freelander turn the key and it turns over for a second and then nothing ,ignition/glowlight are on ,plenty of power from battery but dead .I'm guessing starter motor problem ,I had to change the solenoid bushes about 3 years ago maybe they need changing again as starting has been sh...t and it takes ages to start .Think this is the last straw ,get it fixed and then sod it off.

if it is an old one especially the petrol then it could be the ignition switch its self not the barrel but the contacts which you turn when turning the key how to short this out is leave the ignition on make sure it is out of gear and get a wire take it down to the starter motor and then to positive on the battery if it starts then its the contacts on the switch if you are cleaver you can clean the contacts I did many years ago on the wife's car and it is still good.

Its the 2.0 diesel L series , marvellous went to get it recovered and it bloody started ,and its started since .
