Please don't get any erotic ideas, I'm 18½ stone and heavily bearded! That aside I bought my first Range Rover a 2000 dhse about a year ago and to be honest i love it to bits. I have previously owned a 2003 ML 400 CDI, so I do honestly understand the comments about lack of power and the unfortunate trait for the auto box to hunt through the gears on part throttle, especially when climbing. But my wife appreciates the security of the countryside passing at normal speeds (yes as opposed to the the 400) and servicing is proving to be both in expensive and achievable by a relative novice,
I do have 1 small concern at the moment though. I have the standard problem with the pump in the fuel tank requiring keeping the tank above ¼ full, but I have also noted that I have an oscillation in the engine note above about 2500 revs. I am assuming that it is probably related to peak power and is in all gears. It is noticeable in the engine note but the rev counter is stable.
Would it be related to the fuel pump problem or it it a harbinger of something darker. I appreciate your thoughts. The Viking

Hello... you might be more prone to erotic comments now the locals know your bearded ;)

I had the intank pump go on me too! its easy to replace and fairly cheap unless you go for the genuine Land Rover pump..My advice would be to change it as soon as you can now its failed. Then change in engine note may well be connected Im not an expert but id imagine that at those revs the engine will be calling for more fuel and the pumps not answering...

hope this helps you out! dont forget to add where your from. And get some pictures up (of the car ;) )

:welcome2:Welcome, are you French or English? I'm english but have lived in France for 14 years.
First fix your in tank pump then see if you still have a problem. I have diagnostics but I'm a bit too far away to be of any help.
Put your next post in the Range Rover section for a better response.:)

Always just pictures of the car! Ah well! I will sort some out.
I'm English having lived here 10 years. I thought myself that the engine note seemed to suit the fuel pump scenario, so I will pick up a replacement and see what happens

Thanks for the welcome

You can either drop the tank to change the pump which will give you the oportunity to check the brake lines for rust, or you can cut the floor as described by canyon in the Range Rover "How To" section.
Always best to run a full tank with diesel especially in winter as this helps avoid bacterial growth in the fuel.

I'll be dropping out the tank. I don't like the idea of cutting metal and as you say it's always good to have a look see at what is what. luckily when I built my house I put in a pit, so should be a doddle.
Thanks again!

So you are out near Poitiers. We looked at the south Vendee before settling in Brittany. Liked Vouvant, but at the time there were no children or young family's. Nice are once you get off the flats. The monkey park is still the kids favourite place.

A French virgin is like, what, 9 years old??? And 18 1/2 stone with a beard!!

Enough of the Septic jokes and let's run with the French big bearded 9 year old virgin gags.

Welcome to LandyZone.
