Hi all, have a problem with my '07 plate Freelander2. Sometime when try to start - nothing - have found if I remove the starter relay, spray Servisol in the holder and clean contacts usually starts ok. Have installed another heavy duty earth at starter but problem persists. New relay fitted but same prob. Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated. Remo1426
 
How many miles as the FL 2 done 07 reg you say, could be the starter motor contacts and plunger, They usually need changing around the 75,000 to 100,00 mark.

I am quite familiar with the workings of the starter motor as I used to refurb them as part of my apprenticeship - checked Bendix, cleaned crud from segments on com with bit of hacksaw blade, checked solenoid etc even done a repaint, but now at the age of 81 not in any position to crawl about and remove the starter - so it will be down to our local indy - get starter removed and work from there. Still thinking there could be a prob with the relay. What was wrong with key in ign turn key - ign on turn again hey presto starter turned "simples" Now electronics, Progress? But I thank you for taking the time to reply and offer advice, Remo337

I replaced the contacts on my starter while I was rebuilding the engine, as it made sense to do while it was off, and the contactor set is so cheap.

There's no crawling about needed to remove the FL2 starter, as it's half way up the front of the engine block, so can be reached from the top.;)

Thanks Nodge68 for info - should have remembered starter easy accessible as I fitted a second earth (its an age thing!) Will get it on the bench and power it up and take it from there, regards Remo1426
