My Freelander wouldn’t start after about 2 /3 miles of driving. But if I wait between 10/30 mins it starts & drives fine ? It’s done this for a few weeks & this morning it wouldn’t start at all so I phoned my local garage who came out & tried to jump start it but it still wouldn’t start the lights were on & so was the radio so I got towed back to garage who said it was the starter motor ? & when I went back to pick the car up said it was a bit of bad wire on the starter motor & didn’t need a new starter motor.Has anyone else had this problem & did it fix the problem?

Sounds like the contacts in the starter motor. Others may have better advice though. If it is the contacts it's an easy cheap fix.

If the radio didn't go off when you turned the key to crank, it may be the ignition switch (plastic bit on end of the barrel).

On my sons 1.8 on the back of the starter motor there is a small wire ends in a spade connection it just pushes on to the starter . If that comes off/breaks the dash lights will come on but the starter will not turn no clicks nothing. I know this because when doing some work on his awhile back I broke the spade (don't ask) and it took me a few mins to realise what I had done ,after working back through what I had touched
