fob may need synchronising

disconnect the car battery and reconnect

press the lock button on the fob 6 times

this cured mine

Do you hear the starter solenoid click when you turn the key?
If not one of those refurb kits could cure the problem.
I had a similar problem but the solenoid worked fine, found a new starter on Ebay for £40, problem solved.

Hi there it's a S reg 1.8 k series.. No noise from starter it's as if immobiliser is still on there's nothing at all think it may be some kind of earth problem. Locks and unlocks lights windows everything else working ok battery appears to be all ok just that when you turn key it's as if immobiliser hasn't been switched off by fob even thou light goes off when fobbed is pressed

I'm fairly sure the fuel pump wouldn't run if the immobiliser was active.
It does sound to me like you could use a starter refurb kit.
Can you bump start it? That would answer whether it was the immobiliser or not.

Tap the starter with a bar several times to see if the solenoid is sticking primative but effective sometimes !!

Wiggle/push in the thin wire on the back of the starter.. might just be that silly connector.

Lights & stuff will often work even when the battery terminals are loose, the starter however will not due to the current draw.

If that fails but the starter solenoid clicks give the starter a gentle tap with a hammer to see if the starter solenoid is sticking!;)

Test light or multimeter on the small wire on the solenoid and check connections to main power wire to the battery have you checked fuses mate
