Assuming all vehicles are fitted with offroad tyres, my Freelander with 225/75/16's two inch lift and a proper sump guard and exhaust guard will do more than my wifes almost stock D1 with 235/70/16 tyres, and my modded disco will obviously go beyond that. A defender 90 as has been said here is the best due to its shorter rear overhangs and wheelbase and thus better departure angles and rampover angles. A D1 is a good compromise vehicle, I have two of them one almost standard for mys.Jay's soccer mom wagon, one with 3" lift 265/75/16 muds on dished weller wheels and all the toys. The freelander is a bit quieter and comfier on the road, and generally comfier, but on the trails i run around here it can go anywhere I want to go. Obviously it will never make a trophy truck.
