Definitely seems like the best option, I couldn't believe the speeds that some of the tractors around here were doing along the roads yesterday, they just seemed to be on rails!
there was a nice big uni mog at the end of me road yesterday......considered hijacking it but couldnt reach the door.:doh:
 
Took my Freelander out in about 8inch's of fresh snow on some farm roads with M+S tyres on ...

They're not just any tyres, those are M & S tyres. Blimey. I didn't know they did premium rubber too! I shouldsa known, same colours as LR!

must be something wrong somewhere. mine's been rock solid so far, td4 auto commercial, running on michelin lattitudes.

maybe tempting fate...
 
I wonder when the last time the viscous was checked on the op's vehicle;)
 
My wifes little 1.8 FL is way,way better than my Disco on snow - going and stopping,they both have Michy tyres on too,so a fair comparison in my view.
Cant see why peeps keep banging on about FL v Disco,you just need to take them for what they are,FL is ace on slippery surfaces,but I wouldnt bother with a tow bar or deep ruts.Disco will happily tow 3.5 tonnes,can have 7 seats and will do deep ruts.
Simples.
 
My Mum has the TD4 and in general snow/ice conditions it can more than hold it's own. Having said that I used my Disco to pull a Freelander from a snow bound hill yesterday as it just didn't have the height that mine did (to be fair my towbar was cutting a rut in the snow). My own choice would always be a Disco for various reasons but the Freelander is a capable vehicle within reason and each have their pro's and con's. Having said that they both out rank a Rav 4 (which I have also dragged out cause it was just useless) any day of the week!
 
got a disco and freelander both running on bfg all terrains. we had close to a foot of snow on the roads the other day and the freelander was very capable on a range of terrains. the only problem i see with it is ground clearance, but this car doesn't get used on harsh terrain anyway. i should mention it used to run on 17 inch road tyres ans was useless, now on 15 inch 215 75 /15. hope this helps

Wish I found this thread yesterday.
Having similar problems with the wifes new FL2, 99% sure its the crap tyres. Unfortunately some nutter has put 19" wheels on the bloody thing so limited in what AT tyres we can find.
We've pretty much got it down to 2 choices - Pirrelli Snow and Ice tyres or change the wheels to something more normal and go for grabber AT2's

to ian the hse chap, buy smaller dia wheels and you will find more choice of tyre, larger profile tyres will usually give more grip in snow/icy conditions.

So it cant carry **** all and is **** on anything more than a kerb. Why buy it??:rolleyes:

carries everything I need, lower road tax of £200 for a td4 auto, hasn't got stuck or faltered once in all the snow, haven't missed a days work because of the snow, and totally tax deductable as a commercial vehicle

oh and nice an comfy for the amount of miles I do !
