Was the problem the tyres or were you going too fast for the conditions?

It was just very bad luck. 10mph tops, tyres played a major part... was skidding non stop til i got my new tyres.
Hi there, I have the Continentals on my Freelander 2 and I dont know what the reviews say but mine have got me up to and down from high alpine ski resorts in deepish snow with no need of chains. Have just driven back to UK from Pyrenees in a day with snow on the Motorways for much of the way also with no problem. They've just done 32000 miles which I also think is pretty good. Putting some new ones on next week, but sadly they aren't cheap. Not sure whether the tyres or the FL 2s electronics are the star but they work pretty well together on mine. Regards, Ozone

Should think 32000 miles is pretty good mileage, and I was wondering how long a set of tyres lasts on a freelander. Back tyres on my previous car a MGF 14000 max and the fronts around 25000. My Freelander has 225x45x17 but was thinking a higher profile would suit better. Tyres were on it when I bought it last year Barums on front can't remember off hand what is on the back, the spare is a michelin.

You've resurrected an old thread here, but no probs.
I would be very disappointed to get only 32K from my tyres. I'm expecting more like 60K judging by the wear on this set at the moment.
You've got some funny sized tyres on yours I think. Be very careful that you haven't got different sizes front and rear as you can easily damage the VCU and worse the IRD and Rear Diff - are yours all 225/45 17?
The original LR fitment for the 17" wheel would have been 225/55 17
I chose a slightly wider 235/55 17 when I replaced the original Michelins with Continentals.
You can't fit any wider or higher than those as you would then foul the struts.

All the same size I know they have to be and also replace all together if possible or at least where circumference is as close as possible to be equal. Thanks for the info while what I have on is not ultra low profile I feel 4x4 vehicles look ugly unless sprting the proper (large side wall) tyres. Apart from the fact that for practicality a higher side wall is preferred for off road driving.

I agree - there's a guy around here who runs a Range Rover with 35 profile tyres on - looks foolish.
