They don't, doesn't mean its sensible to do it though. theres more than just the fender that can tow 3.5T, disco can too IRC, as can the older Kia Sedona.
Id be wary of any situation where the tail can wag the dog.
im also aware the fender can tow alot more than 3.5T if it has a different brake system installed etc, etc, thats a different ketle of fish.
So your saying anyone with a IFOR williams trailer rated at 3500kg isnt sensible to tow it fully loaded with a landrover?
Soon as you put a minidigger plus a couple of buckets on the trailer you are quickly up to 3500kg and their are hundreds of people running like that safely.
With the weights of caravans now i would much rather tow a double axle 1800kg van with a freelander than a 1500kg single axle. To a certain extent no matter how much the car ways in relation to the caravan if you get a snake on or involved in an accident that swinging trailer will soon pull the car round even if the car is heavier. Obviouisly less likely to happen the bigger the weight difference between the car and the trailer but still happens when trailers weight less than towing vehicle.
