HI all, well my day was good till me freelander decided it wasn't going to start.
First off it started perfect and i did a short trip and back. I cleaned the car, then got in to move it and the engine turned but will not fire up. Engine Malfunction light is on it flickers after a few seconds after swith on, but then stays illuminated. The other Engine Malfunction indicator ( on the lefthandside) goes out. Any ideas would be welcome??? Thanks:confused:
 
Hi Willo, thanks for help, is cam sensorcalled Camshaft position sensor in manual, also is it something you can service or does it need straight replacement. Ta Jeff:confused:
 
I think that's the correct name and when you do a search on the forum you will see a lot of explanations about it. As far as I could read in other posts it is to be replaced and a piece of cake. Of course there are other possibilities of the car not starting, therefore please do a search and read. Good luck.
 
I would check the drainage holes next to the ECU unit in the nearside of the underbonnet grill at the base of the windscreen. If blocked it will cause water to enter the ECU unit area and cause all kinds of problems. Worth a check, especially if it happened after you washed it?
 
Tried above today, still showing Engine Malfunction. So probably off to main stealer on Monday. Its only money aint it! Thanks for help folks.Jeff:(
 
Hi Willo & Iain, Went to main stealer today, diagnostics revealed low diesel level in tank? Its not been below half for ages, anyhow no other fault detected. Now reset and it's been fine, SO FAR!!!! Still can't believe a low fuel level code would immobilize the engine!!

When my rear (in the tank) fuel pump went wrong the engine light came on as well and couldn't start the car anymore. That's when the headmechanic told me to avoid driving the tank till empty but rather try to fill it up with still 1/4 or 1/3 in it, the downforce of the weight helps both the main pump and the auxilliary front pump to bring the fuel forward towards the engine.

hi i had the same sort of problem car would not start fuel was showing a bit low but not in the red R A C called out and said the fuel gauge was faulty . put fuel in and ok he said its not the first one he had seen.
