Hi,

Another question for today - my temp guage has been working a little strangely for a while: the car seems to wam up ok, the temp guage settles around half, and then proceeds to sway down a little below half, then moves back up to half (never goes above!) -it seems to make these changes relatively slowly, and otherwise the car seems fine. The sway itself is quite small.

Having looked at posts here that i could find, i guess its either the thermostat or the coolant temp sensor.

My question is, how difficult is a thermostat change? Rave deals with it as being one and the same as a Coolant pump change, is it really that involved? Isn't there some easy way jsut to change the thermostat?

Cheers

So your temperature guage is working perfectly so you want to change it. I'm sure someone will send you a broken one for £289 if you feel the urge.

Great, its normal then and no need to do any work :D

Im having a good day me.

only reason i was asking is since i read in a previous post this can be a symptom of a failing unit, plus, i never saw my temp guage do this before, it always stayed dead center - its only in the last years its been like this.

It is too much of a hassle to change it unless catastrophic failure

Engine warm, cabin warm - leave well alone

my 04 td4 sport is the same looked into the thermostat route £42 for stat then 5 1/2 hours to change like mark2 said unless it fails altogether as longs as the engine gets warm and cabin, don't fix it unless its broke
