hi everyone, i have just joined this site as i am getting a 03 2.0 td4 on thursday. i have read different reviews on different site, and there not very good, are these cars really that bad? as the test drive was wonderful, much better than my 2.0 picasso i am trading in for it. ive really fell in love with it. any info i should know will be gladly recieved.

I think you can relax a bit, I also have a 03 td4 kalahari auto, had it for 6 months now had 102,000 miles on the clock when I got it and its now at 107,000 and its the best car I have ever owned, the wife loves it, when I let her get her hands on it that is 
Like any car they all get their problems and people only seek answers when they go wrong, as long as they are correctly serviced and looked after I think they are as good as any other car.

i have run mercedes diesels for the last 12 years then bought a TD4 4 months back and think it is fantastic no problems at all. my wife was very apprensive about going off mercedes cars but now thinks the freelander is fantastic only negative is that it is not auto although the manual box is excellent to use

Sounds a bit expensive to me with the credit crunch etc going on. If you got a very good PX deal and a good warrenty with it then it may be not so bad but I thought you could have haggled that down by quite a bit.

Just had a quick look around and you can get the 3 door version with low mileage for under £4000 but some are trying to get nearer £6000 like yours.

trading a piccasso 2.0 hdi, and having to pay 3,200. 6 months tax, 12 months mot and 6 months warrenty. car sales in cumbria don't seem to be affected with the credit crunch, its hard to barter with garages round here, i've seen cheaper on ebay but obviously, theres no warrenty, then travelling to pick it up. thanks

TD4 is the best of the bunch - great engine, and most of the transmission problems that you read about oninternet sites were pretty well sorted by the time the TD4 came out.
I've had the misfortune to drive a Picasso and I'm sure they are great runarounds but otherwise they are nothing inspiring, which is OK if a runaround is all you are looking for in a car.
The Land Rover is a good, reassuring drive.
