goodday everyone, i'm in the process of changing the clutch on my car and i would like some advice please .so far ive removed propshafts from ird and gearbox ive removed subframe which i had to grind out the lower arm rear bush housing bolt which has left me with the problem of extracting the bolt stub, if anyone has had this or similar problem could you give me some advice on what i could try:scratching_chin:next im going to remove front prop from ird, what size are them torx bolts as i have to go and buy one (halfords/screwfix) then the ird i would like to leave this in place to avoid draining coolant and removing pipes(just loosen from gearbox but leave attached to ird/engine bracket) what do you think:confused:other things like starter motor removal , exhaust front pipe, do i need to remve these as states in the haynes manual.i have hired an engine crane from hss but unfortunately its not coming until next Wednesday has anyone done without the need for this :eek:thanks guys any advice would be great or if anyone knows of any informative threads that i can read btw does anyone know what these engines weigh as the hire company have a choice of a 500kg or a 2000kg hoist. thanks fellow landys
 
ok guys heres a quick update, propshaft front end removed from ird and tied up on exhaust, finally got ird out after draining coolant and using an universal joint on 15mm socket and 12" extension bar for the top bolt of the ird near the engine:cool:and the bolt stub that was left after having to cut off the lower arm bush housing came out surprisingly easy after soaking it with wd40 :Dso thats it for tonight.i have taken a few photos of the process and will be uploading them when im finished the job.in the haynes manual it says petrol cars and cars with automatic gearboxes have to take out starter motor but doesnt mention diesel with manual transmission ,so i was wondering if i dont need to remove flywheel then why remove starter:rolleyes:so landys will post my results next weak of my findings in thr gearbox and dmf i might go for smf , im not brave enough to try and support engine without a hoist so i will have to wait until wed after work:D
 
Currently doing my own clutch as well.

Quick question for anyone who may know - the top bolts joining the IRD to the gear box are doing my head in - my head which has now TWICE been drenched in anti-freeze in the process of following Haynes. :mad:

Do you think it would be possible to drop both the IRD and gearbox together, or does the IRD have to come out first? (Is it blocking gearbox bolts or anything?) I should be able to use a bulky impact wrench to separate the two if I had them out from the rest of the engine.

As is, I'm getting nowhere fast with my universal joint, exention bar and wrench. May have to resort to heat to try and get some movement, but since I'm working virtually blind to the two top bolts, I'm not keen on the idea.

Hmmm.... at this stage I could see myself resorting to resting the wrench handle on a sissor-jack on some conrete blocks and trying to force the issue that way.
