I've recently purchased a Freelander TD4 and I am hoping that somebody out there may have had and solved this issue in the past, as all my reading up on similar issues so far has led me to a dead end!
The previous owner explained to me that the MAF sensor needed replacing. Symptoms: when MAF plugged in, you push the accelerator, and its takes around 4 seconds for revs to reach past 2k. When MAF unplugged, revs act as normal and engine pulls as normal.....however when I push the accelerator too quickly, there is a loud clicking sound in the engine, followed by a misfire, followed by a huge plume of blue smoke out of the back.
After spending hours reading through the forums, I decided to replace the MAF/MAP and air intake sensor in the hope of solving this issue.
Turned the key after replacing all three, and the engine started as normal and revved as normal. Tried this about 5 minutes later and I was back to square one. Barely any response from the accelerator.
After tinkering about, I decided to pull the MAF from its housing - still connected, and started her again. Hey presto.
Now for the 1 million dollar question....why would the MAF function out of it's plastic housing, but not in?
Is this an air flow issue maybe? or some kind of electrical fault. This so far has been a dry Jan, but as I write this, after the messing about today, I already feel like reaching for a cold one!!
