My freelander TD from 2001 does not want to start .Glowplugs and dashilluminitation are not working.A new battery and new glowplugs are in it .Starter is working very well but engine is not starting even with a product as called Startpilot into the Airinlet.I am not a specialist.
So can somebody help me ?
Thks a lot.

what i still remember before i face the actual problem , the engine was turning normal but from time to time their was white smoke coming out the outlet and engine problem was illuminating in the dashboard .After some time of engine was running , smoke went away but warning lamp still went on.In the mean time battery run out of power due to the heavy winter season we had in Belgium. And while car is standing outside and do not need it to be repklaced daily ........

TD4's only light the glow plugs if the ambient temperature is low enough. Mine hasnt used its glow plugs for months.

Besides, the engine will still start even with completely failed glowplugs - it will just take longer in colder weather. Your problem lies elsewhere....Flat battery, engine maganegent light, smoke.....it could be dozens of things, so there is no point chasing around "might be this"... "might be that"... Get a garage to read the fault codes and diagnose the problem.

I am afraid I can't help with original problem, but just wondering whether your glow plugs light has shown up yet? even in all this damp cold weather of the last few days my glow plugs light still hasn't lit up at all. Only bought it in the summer, so don't know whether it has ever worked or not. Yet another joy this freebie brings to my life, the uncertainty of not knowing :)

no, but I live in the south of France - its still hot here.

Dont worry - if it starts, its fine, and like I said, even if the plugs dont work it will still start if the rest of the engine is in good order - it will just take a little longer to fire and will smoke a little for the first few seconds.

I measured in the engine compared fuse box the starter relay is getting 12 volt but the fuel pump relay is getting nothing at all .so i think that can be my problem......Now have to find out why i do not get 12 volt at R1 ........

Have you checked the inertia switch behind the ecu box?

This stops the fuel pump running in a crash?

hi my td4 had same problem turned out the fuel pump inside the n/side wing ;which seemed to be working ok ; was turning out less than 2 bar of pressure to the injector pump which needs all the pressure it can get as its a high pressure pump its self hope this helps.

wheir do I find this ? Is this a switch with under big wired cupper which is pusched into the plastic housing very close to the ECU ?
