Hi my freelander steering rack seems to make a horrible creaking sound when at low speeds any idea what it could be

Does it have enough steering fluid? Is it the correct level?

have a look and a listen under the bonnet while someone moves the steering wheel from lock to lock. Loose mounts?

How are the other steering joints?

Is it the rack? Sounds more likely to be the spring seats or anti roll bar dragging on a strut. Get a helper to turn the wheel back and forth while listening to where the sound originates. If the sound is inside the car, the column bush can make a noise as can the clock spring.

I have the same noise comming from the front! The creeking sound comes always when the weather is hot, or i have the climate control on! By cold and rainy weather there is no creeking! What this could be??

Obviously the cold and wet is acting as lubricant, therefore check out moving parts, quite often the springs are the culprit when turning, although seated on plastic washers they get dry and squeak
