So I havent driven my freelander in over a year now due to ill health I was advised not to bother even turning it over start it the other day and its utterly dead any suggestions to get it back in a roadworthy condition?

Who told ya not to start it? Id do a service and change the fluids. Fresh fuel too. The tyres might have flats spots anol

Do that and try it... crank it in bursts so you don't burn the starter, if it starts and dies, start it again and let it come to life on its own. Giving it an oil change will at least help to get some oil over the top end before you turn it over... it might take some persuading, make sure the battery has plenty of poke....
Dersal or petrol???

Apart from the inevitable flat battery there is no reason why an otherwise healthy Freelander shouldn't start!! I've fired up engines that haven't been run for years not months. After my recent engine change, the engine I fitted hadn't run for at least 8 months but fired up in a couple of seconds after the starter started spinning the engine. Just do all the oil, water and fuel checks and charge the battery.

I tried jump starting it with one of those battery boosters but nowt happened so was thinking of getting a completely new battery and of course doing all the fluids first

Booster wont have enough to boot a compltely flat battery. Try jumping it from a running motor. Supsect you battery will be knackered now.

I think that maybe the booster wasnt up to the job. My battery completly died and wouldnt put lights on the dash. Tried to bump it but to no avail but a fully charged booster fired it straight away.

When I got mine it had been effectively abandoned in the industrial estate where the previous owner worked, and it hadn't been started for 8 months. The battery was proper dead so got a new one and did a full service (among many other things.) Just keep going with it it'll start :).
