Hi to all

I have a x reg v6 freelander which has a starting problem, it started with the starter motor just clicking when you turned the key so i purchassed new brushes and everything went ok for a week then hey presto back to starting fine but when engine was hot it would not start till it cooled down, but sometimes if you wiggled the key it would start, so i bought a new starter motor and fiotted it in and it would still not start, someone said it was the ignition switch so i just fitted one of them and it still wont crank at all. If i put a wire from the spade connector straight to the battery it cranks over, with the ignition switch on or off, so now im really miffed, have checked all the fuses, changed the relays over in the fuse box and the engine fuse box but to no avail, however i have noticed the wire around the ignition key is lose and became unwound, i know this is the immobiliser wire but they are intact, the central locking still works with the key both in locking and unlocking, all the windows and electics work inside the car si i assume the immobiliser is ok, can anyone recommend what to do as i cant tow the car as its automatic and four wheel drive, im really stuck

Any advise is more than welcome

Can i eliminate the immobiliser tho seeing as the alarm sets when the doors lock and unsets when i unlock, also with everything else in the car working?

There is a diagnostic you can use, can't remember it off by heart. It checks all the zones are working correctly.
Do a search by using the search box under my topics above!

p.s At least say hello to everyone in the introduce section :)

Could it just be a fuse, have searched web and someone had a problem and they changed the 150amp fuse in the engine bay fusebox, i only saw 4 long fuses that were screwed down some 40 amp and 60amp i believe, where would the 150amp one be

Do you have a haynes manual for it, the schematics will be in there.

I don't mess with electrickery and didn't know there was a 150amp fuse (this seems a very high ampage btw)

It sounds very much to me, from what you've told me, that it is an immobiliser fault somewhere; and this is buried in amongst the intracacies of the ECU.

in my haynes ,not v6, the biggest fuse is 120 amp for the alternator.
there are two fuses for the starter one in engine bay 30A and one in the car 10A
