Hi my Dave, im new to this site. I Have a W reg diesel Freelander 2 litre di. As i was driving the car started to bounce, the car starts, ticks over and revs but when you put into gear, go to take off it kills the revs and cuts out. Amy help would be appriciated.

eerr why would you check out the vcu for this?

Any warning lights on at all dave? Also when it kills the revs how does it do this... does the engine just die?

Hi thanks for reply, had AA out a few months back and they said that it was the egr value. I blanked this off on his advise. It has been running fine since then. Yes it does cut out when i let my foot oft the clutch

so are you saying it hasnt got sufficient power to move the vehicle? or is it something daft like the brakes sticking on.

Sorry to ask daft questions but need more info is all :)

When you blanked off the EGR. how did you do this?

Bought a blanking kit of eBay which consists of two metal plates, a little red plug and copper pipe. I installed them and got local garage to inspect who told me I had done it correctly. Brakes arnt stuck on the AA bloke told me and there was no resistance. I was able to move it by hand. Not 100% sure if lacking power as it'll rev up fine, it's only when u let the clutch go that it cuts the car out. Thanks

ok.

when it cuts out.. does it slowly die or stop very very suddenly with a kerthunk

with the kerthunk being the engine stalling or perhaps something else mechanical stopping it....?

can you rev it a bit more and make it drag itself forward... or if not... gearbox / ird / transfer box... (anyway its more major!)

You can get it to move off with a bit of messing with revs and clutch then when it's going along it's bouncing around vinenty
