Having had the HDC, brake light TC problems, I have replaced the brake light switch and the reversing light switch on my 2001 TD4.
Now I have no reversing lights, the back wiper will not operate and the rear window will not move under any circumstances including the removal of the battery for 10 minutes and re connecting. The wiper is not in the rest position which I assume will not allow the ccu to lower or raise the window. I can hear the relay in the rear well clicking and the door locks operate as normal including the rear one. Any ideas what could be affecting so many things at one time?:confused:
 
Had similar problems on mine. Do the front windscreen wipers work, when the engine and headlights are on? Do the brake lights work whilst the engine is on and off? I changed the switches and it fixed each problem for a bit, then it came back or something else failed. Turned out to be the switch on the end of the ignition barrel. Burnt contacts causing a resistance, which was only noticeable when loaded. Hence the brake lights working when the engine was off, but not working with the engine running.
 
Everything seems to work normally except the rear wash wipe, window and reversing lights, I have tested the reversing light switch and there is power to the switch and the switch is showing resistance when in reverse gear. Checked all of the fuses and they are ok. Relays for the rear window seem to click but the wiper is not in the resting position so I assume that ccu will not let the window move if it thinks the wiper is not at rest. Looks like a strip of the rear interior and door to see if anything is visible there!
 
Check:
E3 earth behind rear RH trim panel
E6 earth behind rear LH trim panel

With the ignition turned to electric on only, and the gearbox in reverse, can you measure 12volts across the reverse light bulb socket? Both bulbs should be connected to earth point E6 on one of the connections. Can you measure a low resistance from one side of the reverse light, to either earth or the battery negative terminal?

Rear wiper motor uses earth E3 too. Tailgate window uses E3. Reverse lights both use E6.
 
Pulled the rear door trim off and it appears that there is a broken cable to the window regulator, this is no doubt the problem with the wiper and window movement!!!. As regards the reversing lights, I have only tried for voltage at the lamp holder and seem to have none. The HDC light stays on in first gear but flashes in reverse, seems to indicate the wiring from the reversing light switch to its next port of call wherever that may be. Should I try checking for voltage at the fuse in the cabin or is that before the switch? Any ideas how easy to replace the rear regulator as there don't seem a lot of room to renew a cable in there!
 
Search,there are a lot of threads on the rear window regulators.
The fuse is before the reversing light switch. Are there volts to earth on both connections on the switch with the car in reverse.
 
Well, replaced the rear window mechanism without any problems although the window only goes down or up a little way before you get the 4 beeps from the ccu. The rear wiper and washer switches fail to operate anything and there is no voltage at the reversing lamps. The rear window heater switch is also not doing anything. At the rear window wiper fuse, I can get voltage to earth but not across the terminals, would the rear wiper being an inch from rest be causing the rear window problems? I will need to get under and check the voltage to earth from the switch, there is obviously something wrong there as the HDC works in 1st gear but not reverse.
 
Checked the voltage at hthe reversing light switch and have voltage there. even if i bypass the switch there are no reversing lights or voltage at the lamps.

all of the issues with the rear wiper, washer and heated rear window are due to the fact the rear windows is uncalibrated, and the ccu cannot sense the window is closed, so it inhibits these functions.

remove power to the battery for 10 mins, then reconnect. rear window will lower, turn ignition on and raise it using the dash switch until it bleeps. it will then be calibrated, and the other functions should return.

the reversing lights should be an issue with the switch or the switch wiring, or the feed to the switch. do you get voltage to earth at one side of the switch, then the other when reverse in engaged ? as it is affecting the HDC, it must be the switch or switch wiring which is at fault.

have you tried shorting out the switch ?
 
Hi Optimus, I have tried to calibrate the window but when I reconnect the battery nothing happens to the rear window. I can drive it down with the console switch at the rate of an inch at a time repeatedly pressing the switch and the same back up, I get the 4 beeps after every press though. I have ordered a replacement relay for the tail lift/wash/wipe today to see if that works. I have tried shorting the switch but still get no reversing lights or HDC in reverse, the HDC light in fact stays on all the time no matter what gear is selected with the switch jumped.
 
Well, replaced the relay but to no avail, time to call in the experts me thinks otherwise I'm gonna replace bits that don't need it. Wonder if it will pay to get someone to put a fault code reader on it or not?
 
Have you checked the two relays for the rear wiper motor or checked the wiring between door and pillar? You need to find out why the motor isn't parking. As you said in your opening post the CCU needs to sense the wiper is off screen.
 
Hi Chaser I have checked the wiring and replaced the relays but the wiper is still not operating although there is power to the motor. I can make the wiper operate by applying a voltage to the terminals and have stopped it in the parked position but this does not seem to make a difference. There must be a link between the rear window not calibrating itself and the wiper position, I can't seem to get either to work correctly.
 
Well, £90 worse off now following a few hours of an auto electricians time. He has checked out all of the systems to the rear, reversing lights, wiper, wiper, washer, door locks, window raise and lower stuff etc and can power them all independently so no earth or supply problems locally to each circuit. It all seems to come back to the CCU which he cant test so its his considered opinion that it is the cause of all the faults. He removed the CCU and had a look inside for any obvious signs of burning or discolouration but could find nothing. I've replaced the reversing light switch and brake light switch along with rear end relays so far but it seems that these are in good nick anyway. I'll let you know the outcome and a full description off all of the problems and symptoms as soon as a cure is found. Thanks for all the help along the way everyone, anyone know where a cheap CCU may be located? £125 + VAT from main dealer!!
 
Well, installed a new CCU and all i'm getting is a two tone warning alarm from the new ccu and the remote fob won't work no matter what I do. Car still starts and runs fine but none of the other problems seem to have been solved. Not sure what to do next!

Fuses 1,8,14 and 30 in passenger compartment.

Download RAVE and use the circuit diagrams to check where you loose the voltages.
 
Had an auto electrician spend a couple of hours on the car, he checked out everything and all seems to be ok except the CCU. I've just fitted a new CCU and now have a two tone alarm and none of the problems have gone away. Apparently I need to get the CCU programmed by Landrover dealer to recognise the car. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
 
hi, i have a freelander 02 model td4. reverse light wont work and rear wiper too when i put it in reverse gear. changed the switch (which was really for nothing as as the old one is still good) and it still does not work. just before it stopped working, i had to put it in reverse a couple of times for the light to come on. can someone tell me how to solve it pls?

Mine is now in an independent garage in Lincolnshire and has been for 3 days, they have not yet found the problem although they can power the rear bits with testbook. I'll let everyone know the outcome once I know.
 
Well, at last its all fixed. It cost £782 including parts but its back on the road at last. The story went like this: The 3 amigo's came on and fuse F2 blew, this was when I selected reverse gear but only happened every couple of times. At the same time the rear window stopped doing what it does best i.e. going up and down, heating up and getting wiped. I replaced the brake light switch hoping that this would cure the issue with the lights to no avail. Now, I know I'm in for some serious well deserved stick for this bit but here goes! I then replaced what I believed was the reversing light switch ( Near side up on the casting from below, 2 wires attached). This didn't change a thing and the fuse kept blowing, well it wouldn't would it as I had unwittingly changed the cruise control switch which incidentally, I don't have! I then moved on to the rear window and replaced the lift mechanism with a new pattern unit from Steve Parker LR. Still no luck so had an auto electrician out for 2 hours, he suggested a new CCU which was duly purchased and fitted at a cost of £147 plus £80 for programming at LR dealer. Still no luck. In the end, it was in to an independent who took 3 days to discover the reversing light switch was indeed faulty curing the reversing light, 3 amigos and fuse 2 issues. He then discovered that the replacement window lift was faulty and hence not giving out the correct signals to the CCU. He replaced the lift with LR part and hey presto, all working. Moral is don't trust new parts, don't believe everyone knows where the reversing light switch is as both auto electrician and independent both tested the wiring to what i now know as the Cruise Control thinking it was the reversing light one and don't think every auto electrician knows what and how to test components! Hope this little essay helps someone and if anyone want any more details on anything written above I'll be happy to help.
