Hi , just bought my first freelander on 2001 y plate td4, with all the snow ive noticed a large oil stain on drive under freelander...on lifting bonnet and on first thought ....there are pipes etc located around left headlight [ passenger side] and seems to be oil massed around this area and catching on engine base tray then on to my drive..it looks a lot of oil and what a mess on drive...not sure what is located in headlight area that oil would go to but as im no mechanic im sure someone out ther might know...any help please.

As it's more passenger side happening I guess the L-shaped hose, connected to the EGR, is more likely to be the culprit ??

check intercooler hoses for splits, then check crankcase breather filter as this can cause the dipstick to be forced up out of its tube and then oil sprays out everywhere.

but check intercooler hoses first, as willo sez, likely to be small right angle hose going onto EGR, part no WAP000080

Just a thought,

It could be the feed pipes for the Fuel Burning Heater
- that's located just below that left hand headlight

Topic opener is specific, oil. Think the fbh pipes passing there only deliver fuel ??

My freelander leaks engine when parked after few minutes drive... Pls what could be the problem
Take off the sump guard and drive a it a bit. Then park it and watch where the oil drip and follow it. May be running off something or along a pipe before dripping.

Live1's leak may be from the 'S' shaped turbo feed-pipe to the intercooler, which is closer to the headlamp than the 90degree bend turbo pipe.

The 'S' pipe is the one which I told someone a few days ago I'd never heard of anyone having a problem with.

A split turbo hose can spray oil in any direction and then it can spread anywhere - so it can be pretty difficult to trace the source without cleaning up a bit and then checking for the split.
