Ok so I'm not the biggest fan of having plain/standard motors, I have a freelander 1 I have the official land rover body kit attached as well as upgrading the air inlet pipes to blue but other than these I can't really find any mods on the market (other than light protectors)

Can anybody make any recommendations? (Ideally with photos) :)

Mod's vary depending on personal taste. Myself I like to tinker to improve mechanical - performance and reliability... and not so much on the cosmetic appearance. A thorough service to ensure reliability and minimise fuel use is recommended!
A good 4WD system is a must: 4 matching tyres - same brand, size and inflation. Check the condition of the VCU [ do the one wheel up test - search on here to see what that's all about]. OR find an open area where you can slowly drive around in circles on full lock. Use 1st or reverse gear, no throttle. You should be able to drive in full circles on engine idle power in 1st or reverse both left and right hand circles. If it feels like the Hand brake is on or you stall then that could indicate that your VCU has stiffened up = time to replace it or it could wreck your IRD [ transfer box].

I'm guessing you have a diesel: L series [ early diesel ] or the later BMW M47 diesel?

For improved 4WD ability good tyres will help a lot. All Terrain [ATs] or Mud Terrain [MTs] for the more adventurous... Ground clearance can be improved with a lift kit...

I have a 1998 1.8 petrol. Check here to see what I've done to it.

Search on here as there's plenty of interesting ideas to read about!

As said, the best things to do first are to check your tyres and VCU....

Mods really depend on what you want to achieve - be they functional improvements or just personalising - eg some like to use silicon hoses to aid or fix problems with induction, others like blue ones.

You won't find as many mods available for Freelander as there are for Defender, but there are lots about from air suspension to cup holders.

As a starter for 10, you could have a look at https://www.muddymods.com/

Most people will start with tyres. If you want to know if a tyre you like fits, tap the spec (eg '235/70 r16') into the search box and search within the Freelander section to see if they're OK, or maybe need spacers/lift.

The worst mod is the official bizarre Freelander body kit. What is that all about?
I have got a nudge bar, light guards front and back; LandroverFreelander spotlight kit (looks like
Hurricane machine guns ha don’t care) Muddy Mods nice and small silencer; rock sliders; towbar and steps mounted on towbar because I wanted the rear protected and couldn’t find anything better, (would have mounted a rear M2 if I could), rear Freelander window dog grill, stupid hard plastic rear luggagespace/compartment cover which people want stupid money for; Imade a metal sump guard using an old sump guard and check plate (all instructions are on heresomewhere); lost the egr; changed the crankcase filter to BMW upgradethat has no filter to change; bought a soft top for the summer (mine is 3 door); it had roof bars already andlast but not least the little plastic wind deflectors that go on the doorswhich I thought would be crap but are actually really good at deflecting the wind and also stopping waterfrom puddles etc., coming straight in over you if you hit water with thewindow down. I am actually amazed at how the car seemed to directwater in the window so well. Now
I am bored but luckily being a Hippo there is always something to dohaha. It’s never over with aLandrover. But I love mine.
Sometimes my wife lets me drive it.

I’m the same,MuddyMods is your best bet,the quality of the stuff is really good and I have bought a lot off stuff from there.I had the car mapped by Jc tuning as well, Jamie’s on here as well and knows his stuff, completely different car after getting that done.
