Afternoon everyone.
As usual with new users posts it's a request for help.

When the rev counter reaches 3 1/2 Thousand revs the engine slows down!, it does not cut out but does not pick up again until i remove my foot from the accelerator.

Now usually this would not be an issue as i don't drive that fast but this happened twice on the motorway and I thought it may be a bit dangerous.

Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

As far as I know its not a turbo.
I think its an 'L' series engine if that helps.

Assuming for the moment its not a turbo what else could be wrong?

Would a faulty sensor cause that type of issue?

The 2.0l L series is a turbo charged sohc (unless its one of the earlier ones 98) have alooky under your bonnet, right hand side attached to the exhaust manifold......unless yours is missing that would definitely explain your problem :)

Is the circled bit a turbo? it looks to small too me, but meh what do I know.

Aaahaaaaaa.

I got a work buddy to look at the hoses while I revved the engine.
The pipes collapsed at 3.5 thou.

We opened up the air filter box and did the same and nothing happened.

So looks like the air filter is to blame.

Off to buy one after work!!..

would deffo replace the hoses - land rover main dealer prices aren't too bad for these, for Td4 one was £7.95, another was £23.40 (both plus VAT). One's a bit fiddly but generally okay to change
You could get a complete set of silicone hoses, but these will set you back about £110, look in the back of land rover owner for a lead to a supplier (can't be bothered to go upstairs to look)
