hi all returning from Cornwall to Kent towing my caravan with my Freelander TD4 03 Plate. The engine management light came on and the vehicle went into limp mode. If switched of and on again the engine light went out and the vehicle was fine again. Until i put the car under load ie towing uphill or accelerating too quick. in the end i was recovered back to my home address since then. i have had the fuel filter changed the low pressure fuel pump and the vehicle checked on Land Rover diagnostic machine. However the problem persists.
The vehicle is fine if driven sensibly up to about 70 mph.
normal speed cruising around town is fine.
If acceleration is hard or if i attempt to tow a caravan the management light comes on and it goes into limp mode.
Any suggestions/ideas?? burning is not an option at the moment.

hi, did you get anywhere with your freelander problem? If the engine lamp has come on, the computer will 'remember' the cause and when interrogated by a diagnostic machine will give a fault code/codes. I think you need to get the codes read again, that will give a direction in which to look, and avoid fitting unnecessary parts due to guesswork. There are a few common issues with the TD4 engine, but not many of those will cause a 'limp home' status. Come back with a code or two and maybe we can point you in the right direction....good luck..
