Hi,
This is my first post ever...
My 51plate td4 has a slight tap/knock just as power/biting point is reached and again when lifting off. As soon as the tap happens the transmission starts to whine. Sounds like its in reverse or like a milk float. Removed the propshaft, still happens, checked ird oil and its full. Recently had ird oil changed and no metallic bits were found.
Anybody any idea? Noise is from front.

Thanks for the reply.
After taking the prop off i can say the knocking is defo from the front. Before i took the prop off i ordered the 3 rear diff bushes. Dont think i need them now.

Does anyone have any advice or is it a case of pay the professionals? I was hoping to do the work myself.

dump the oil out of the gearbox and check for bits of metal!

Will metal stick to the plug like it should in the ird plug?

it may be magnetic, i'm not sure

Right you bitch, youve cost me dearly, if your gunna have your gearbox taken out and stripped you will want a new clutch coz yours is slipping and a flywheel....and a slave cylinder and a master cylinder and a probably a gearbox and gear oil and labour charges ... it would be cheaper to have a drug addiction or take up proper gambling.
