I have a 02 Freelander Commercial Td4 which has just had 2 new centre bearings. I'm now getting a knocking noise from them during driving and tight turns, only knocks for about 2 seconds but sounds like its going to come through the floor! The uni joints on the shafts are not in line and I thought it was that but the garage that did the bearings tells me that they can't be set in line as the splines are not set like that???
I also have a quiet drone from the rear end which I thought would be a wheel bearing but we jacked it up and they seem to be fine..... CAN ANYONE HELP!!! My brother is a very good mechanic and is going to take a look but he's not familliar with Freelanders so some help would be great..... The front shaft is sitting low in the centre bearing if that means anything?? There is no obvious play in the drive system although during driving I'm getting strain as if something is locking up/on...... ITS ALL TOO MUCH FOR ME! Am I about to re-mortgage the house??
