Can anyone help with advice on how to remove the oil filter cap off a freelander 1 td4 2003.

Have bought the suitable sized ratches bolt but can' seem to get the thing off.

Is there a correct way ie pull or push to loosen and any tips on how to loosen if over tight?

The ratchet seems to not budget it

Also can anyone confirm the oil sump plug is the first one you come to oder neath the engine as there a larger sump plug further along

They can be VERY tight and hard to shift but just unscrew. I assume when you say bolt you mean socket.

And is the sump plug the first sump plug closest to front of the car ?
Sits at an angle instead of one further down with larger sump plug that is flush with the ground

I had to use a very large impact socket and a breaker bar to do mine the first time. It screws on/off like a nut, if you have a small impact gun that should get it off as well.

Yes I am using a socket set with not much luck as the socket just jumps off
It must be the wrong size or it's a multi point socket. I never use multi point sockets now, after years of rounding off bolts I chucked my multi points and bought nice Bahco hex sockets.

The sump bolt is at the rear of the sump near the bottom. They can be very tight too, but don't over tighten it when refitting. Just nip it up. ;)
