The internal heater fan has only worked in 3 and 4 settings, and I always like the fan on at least 1 setting to prevent misting, so it needed fixing pronto. Found on these fora that there is a pack of heater coils in the airflow that determine the fan speed. Sounds like an overly complicated way of doing things, especially as they break on a regular basis. Anyhow, found the repair kit on ebay

Removed the device from my car. It's green plastic with a wire block coming out of the middle located in the driver's footwell, held in by two screws into the heater/air pipes:
It looked a bit knurdled...
So removed the dead bits with a soldering iron and added the new. Easy peasy took a couple of minutes waiting for solder to melt. Didn't need a solder sucker, just slipped the new bits in while old solder melted.
All together and works a treat on all settings/speeds!
