Me And My Wife Are Thinking Of Buying A Freelander For Me To Run To Work And Back (about 7 Miles A Day) We Were Going To Spend About £2500 And Wondered Which Model To Go For After Reading Some Really Bad Reports On Them Saying They Were Basically S*** Unless You Had Enough Money To Buy A Freelander 2. Are They Really That Bad? And Which Model Id Best? Td4? A Swift Reply Would Be Appreciated As We Are Going To Look On Saturday 2nd Feb

i agree wi MHM but 2500 aint gonna get you a lot..

avoid petrol and try find a di or put cash towards a early td4

As an owner of the Freelander di and a 300 Tdi Defender the 300tdi is a great motor and the disco has a bit more comfort than the defender so I'd look for a Tdi disco. Watch out for overpriced heaps though as the rot in the back floor is expensive to deal with if its there.

I've got a Freelander TD4 now on 105k miles and still drives very well - had new radiator at about 50k as the only singificant expenditure. Hardly an exciting drive, but pretty good family chugabug really. Doubt mine is worth £2500. So if its what you want I reckon you've got a chance of a finding a good one.

Hope this helps.

Freelander diesels are reliable and the later BMW TD4 engine is the best of the bunch.

Freelanders with petrol engines are really only safe buys for LR or mechanic enthusiasts.

As Boxer has suggested, the Discovery is cheaper and you will get more car for your money... But they are bigger, more thirsty, more complex, don't handle as well and are not to everyone's tatstes/requirements.

Cheers
