Hi could someone please advise, I have a freelander TD4 Auto, the only thing wrong is that it feels as if it has the brakes constantly on, when you select drive or reverse should the vehicle roll forward and backwards?

Regards Adam

Yes, that is normal.
With a small capacity diesel, and a fairly primitive autotrans, you can't expect the performance of an F1 car.
Have you checked that your brakes aren't actually binding?

I checked to see if the brakes were hot after a journey but they weren’t, I just expected it to start rolling without touching the accelerator, thanks for the info

It probably should creep forward on idle in Drive. Maybe your autobox is on the way out.
See what some of the freelie owners say when they come back.

It should creep and need the application of the brakes to stop it rolling at lights and roundabouts. My own TD4 auto will creep at 10 Mph, if it were allowed to just roll un-arrested with the brakes.

If it's not creeping, then something is stopping it. The front calipers are known to stick, which is one possibility. Odd tyres can cause transmission wind up which will reduce the creep and trash the transmission at the same time.
So you need to check everything carefully, preferably with the wheels lifted off the floor.
