If the wipers do all the things they're supposed to at various times when operating the switch one way or another, then the motor is probably OK.
Sounds like you need a new switch. :)
or you have a wiring fault - improbable but possible? :(

Thanks for info.

Where is best to get one which doesn't cost a bomb through land rover?

Its definitely not the motor, as someone quite rightly says if it works on the quick wipe or screen wash how can it be the motor. I had the exact same problem a month ago and I had to replace my wiper stalk. Got it for £60 directly from Lucas. Could of got one of fleebay cheaper but it was second hand.(£25) Landrover wanted £150 !!!
If you want to test my theory try turning the wiper stalk very slowly between settings and you will occasionally get it going or use a hairdryer to heat up the grease in the stalk. It works honestly !!! :):)
Apparently its something to do with the grease on the contacts in the switch itself.

Good luck.

Tried your theory tonight of turning the stalk slowly. You are right it does make them work. I tried this a few times then when I tried my wipers normally they worked like they should.

I'm wondering if I can get away with the mot doing this beforehand. (runs out soon)

Where is Lucas?

Hi there,

I see theres a couple of threads on this. Just wanna be clear though...

I have an 03 TD4, few weeks ago my front wipers started losing their PARK position on intermittent or quick swipe / wash-wipe.

Can any of you confirm this is the motor (park sensor) or the stalk switch??

Also, there some inconsistency about the motors - some sellers are saying all freelanders up to 2001, some to 2006????

Any clarity will help me out and save me some time and money.

Thanks guys...

PS - is any user here living in Lincolnshire and can change the runners on my electric sunroof??

Hi all
I have a similar problem that the front wipers on my 03 td4 freelander and the wipers would sometime stop randomley on the window so i replaced the motor with a britpart one worked fine for about 4 weeks and now they take ages to turn on but when it does work its fine, could the motor de fecked again or is the stock nackered
Cheers kevin

Sounds like the switch to me, there are one or two tips in this thread to help you check it out.

hi there
i thought it was as i have already checked the cabling and power to motor, but thought i would make sure.
cheers kevin

Hi
My wipers would fail to work - intermittently - when selecting either fast, slow or intermittent via the rotary switch, but always worked on the wash/wipe and stalk pull down operation.

I reckoned FACER was spot on with his thoughts about the hairdryer and the grease, so I pulled the switch apart.

The contact were smeared in a grease that was about the viscosity of slightly warm candle wax. Took a screwdriver to remove. impossible to move by wiping.

I set to and cleaned it off - and re greased with some silicone grease. (twas all i had). Now works ok - though I did notice some wear on one of the contacts and corresponding wear/pitting of the slider that meets it.

I have photos, but do not know how to get them on here. Switch comes apart easily.

Thanks Facer.

I had this problem with mine especially first thing in the morning when it was cold!!!! Found it was the switch in the stalk. I bought some electrical contact cleaner its called "Servisol super 10" you can buy it off Eby for around a fiver with postage. Sprayed it in the joint at the top of the stalk. Its harmless to plastic etc so no worries. Worked a treat now my wipers work first time every time.

hi guys how do i remove the wiper stalk, can this job be done with out removeing the steering wheel ,thanks
