Been busy last few days refurbing wheels.

On Wednesday I took four old Freelander wheels to the tyre shop to get new tyres fitted. I've never been that happy with the Nissan Leaf tyres as they are kind unforgiving, give the car a firm ride and I feel every bump.
I had set the four aside a few months ago as they were the best of bunch, the rest went to the scrap metal place and fetched £15 each after paying to have the tyres removed.
As soon as the tyres came off the tyre fitter advised the wheels needed refurbed so after an hour with the wire wheel on a grinder and a few more hours with 400 grit wet and dry this is the undercoat.

Two quid a tin from Home bargains so I cleaned out the local store then drove to another and cleaned them out too. 😋
It is a bit thin but still did the job.
This is it with alloy wheel paint. Home bargains also sell this for £2 but I already had a few tins of the Autoglym brand. From what I've seen any alloy wheel paint will be fine, you don't need to pay extra for branded but I already had it so...

Of course I was pretty much finished the four when I remembered I should probably do the spare. It has a decent tyre on it already
so I got the masking tape out and got it done.

I plan to mix 2K lacquer to give the toughest possible finish so wanted everything ready. I'm rubbish at spraying with a spray gun so want to ensure everything is as ready as possible.

The other job done was to fit the rubber bobbins to the PS pump.

It only took 10 minutes or so and the difference is surprising, much quieter now. :)
These are the ones I ordered.

They look really good Ali.
I’m thinking about spraying mine in a satin black, but that won’t be till next spring now.

Thanks mate, they got lacquered last night and look pretty good but it will take a few days for the lacquer to harden enough for the tyres to go on. I used 2k lacquer with no thinners which allows it to go on pretty thick without runs but it's a very messy job that I don't like. There is always a mist of spray in the air of the garage which settles on everything so I use a decent canister type mask while spraying. I probably don't have the air gun set correctly but it works well enough and is 10 times better than using rattle can lacquer.
I love satin black and have used it loads of times on other things but I don't think black would go well with navy blue.

Spare wheel is back on but waiting another day for the lacquer to harden on the others before taking them for tyres. This tyre is good enough for a spare.

Unfortunately the alloy wheel paint is never a great match for the original so the centre cap stands out more than I like but it will have to do. It's not quite so obvious in in real life as the photo suggests.

Sunday night I was dropping Mum off at my sisters and didn't realise it was snowing while I was inside. The car was white when I came out and by the time I got home it was lying on the roads, I couldn't help myself and took the long way home on the back roads and had a lot of fun. The car was great, loads of grip for accelerating, not so much when braking tho.
It confirmed that the car is a bit understeery but not in a bad way, just a wee bit.
