Hi. I've done a quick search on the forum and couldn't find anything specific to this year of Freelander. I bought a 2002 (52 plate) Freelander GS TD4 Auto 2 days ago with a great engine and cracking overall nick. I've been putting it through it's paces and it has really been a one lady owner car (only 36000 miles on the clock with service history to confirm). I am at a loss however to find where the CD changer should be. The manual says it should have been located under the passenger seat, but it's not there. there are a bunch of wires under the driver seat but no changer, so I guess the unit was removed. I'm curious as to why the wires are located under the driver seat, and if indeed these are for a CD changer. Furthermore I would like to identify what CD Changer unit should be fitted in this car to source a suitable plug and play replacement.

Your help would be much appreciated guys.

Superb. Any idea why the wires would be on the drivers side and not the passanger side? I'm not sure if the wires are for the CD changer at all, could take a photo if that would help?

the cd changer is under the passenger side.under the drivers side you will have the heated seat connections and you should have a connector that has one black wire and one red and white wire this connector on mine is not connected to anything so not sure what its for.

got a 03 td4 kalahari and my cd unit is under the drivers side seat had the car from 6 months old so i presume its been there from new:confused:

What do the connector wires look like? I've checked under the passenger seat and there is nothing, but there are a bunch of wires with different connectors under the drivers seat.

there is a small light grey connector which i presume would connect to the heated seats and a bigger black push connector that goes to my cd changer hope this helps

generally, they were fitted to the passenger side. The multichanger should have a multi way connector, and the type of auto changer depends on the head unit. The philips C42 head unit should have auto changer part no. HSTC53117. This includes a loom which goes to the back of the head unit. The loom cabling tucks up under the side of the centre console, so maybe give it a gentle tug and see if you can tease it out to trace where it goes.

good luck

Hi john
CD changer on my 52 plate ES is under the driver's seat. sounds like you got yerself a nice motor...apart from the missing bit!...oh an ..:welcome2:

I have a 03 td4 kalahari 5 door auto and my cd unit is under the drivers seat also. Best car i have ever owned, I love it and she has now done 110,000 miles and still runs sweet as a nut.

My 04 HSE Auto has the changer under the driver seat and what seems to be the amplifier under the passenger seat!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I do seem to have a bunch of wires under the seat on the drivers side (even though the Manual states it should be on the passenger side).

Seen a few on ebay going pretty cheap so will bid and see if they fit, no loss if they don't I'll just sell them on.

Fitted unit to my '02Td4 GS, the leads under the drivers seat are not for the cd changer, they are for heated seats, bought new changer and lead on e-bay, came with fittings to go under passenger seat which is pre-drilled. The lead connects to radio goes down along centre console to side of seat, under carpet and comes out under a flap in the carpet under the passenger seat.

Darryl.

I have an 03 ES Premium with the HK system. The CD changer is under the drivers side as the passenger side has the HK amp. Speaking to a friend who has a Car Radio business he thought the original is a Clarion or similar as these were also used by Rover.

He also pointed out that that rather than fit a CD changer to suit my head unit (changed mine) why not fit an iPod dock as this would work out cheaper and more flexible (and more tracks) especially as you are looking for the original unit. Many head units will control a genuine iPod as if it is a large CD using a suitable adapter.

Before you ask sorry I want to keep mine as I will restore the original system which is a Becker Sat Nav when I sell the car on.

my cd changer under drivers seat 2002 Td4 Es :rolleyes:fitted dvd head unit to mine One dvd holding larger number of album's than the cd changer

Hi. I think I've found an un-used socket for an autochanger.
(I think my vehicle has an autochanger facility, because it says 'load' on the CD button player on the unit - as in load multiple discs).

Quick look reveals, no Philips/Alpine unit under either of the front seats, or an amp. However there is one little grey un-used plug under the passenger seat.

Poking around further I found a large mystery socket at the front.
Location: Passenger footwell. Exiting from: Lower centre console to left.

Do you guys think this big socket could be for an autochanger?

Thank you for any ideas.:p
