Has anybody fitted different engines to a freelander, if my engine is knackered what would be the best engine to fit.
It would have to bolt straight in or be an easy mod.
My engine is the dreaded 1.8 2001 petrol.

A V8 will NOT FIT unless you want to rearrange all of the drive train and do SERIOUS modification of the bodywork. The V8 is an in-line engine - all of the Hippoo engines are transverse.

The best options are either to convert to a TD4 diesel or to fit a Rover T220 Turbo lump - this will fit the standard PG1 box with only minor modification and would still give 4wd if necessary - or else go 2wd:D.

Doa search - its been covered before.

Really? Do ya think so? :rolleyes:

Anyway, maybe he does want to do all that - Maybe even fit a second V8 in the boot and extend the length long enough to fit a third axle and...... :p

how easy would it be to stick the 2.5 in there do u think?

dont do it!!!!!! :eek::eek:

the KV6 is (almost) as prone to HGF as the 1.8 - the easiest and most reliable upgrade would be the Rover 220 Turbo lump - It fits onto a PG1 box (with minor mods) and would be more reliable and more powerful.

Unless you wanted to go the TD4 route.

No. 1,you are wise. 2, had a bad hippo and slightly bitter about it. 3, you do seem to be finding info others cant or wont.
